Privacy
Your files stay on your Mac.
Last updated 2 October 2026.
The app
- PeekPlain opens and renders files on your Mac. It does not upload them, scan them or send them anywhere.
- Rendering is offline. Previews do not load anything from the network.
- On-device AI features use Apple's model on your Mac. Nothing leaves it.
- There is no account and no analytics in the app.
What does use the network
- Update checks. Sparkle asks peekplain.com/appcast.xml whether a new version exists. That request carries the app version and your Mac's OS version, which Sparkle includes by default. Turn it off in Settings.
- License activation and re-checks. When you activate Pro, the app sends your license key and an anonymous machine hash (a one-way hash, not your Mac's name or serial number) to peekplain.com so the license can be signed for that Mac. Nothing else is sent. It re-checks at most every 30 days and never locks you out if you are offline.
- Crash reports. Off unless you turn them on in the first-launch screens or Settings.
Where it runs
- This website, the app downloads and the license server run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare sees ordinary request data such as your IP address when you visit, download or activate.
- The license server stores your license key and the anonymous machine hashes of the Macs you activated, so it can enforce the limit of 3. It stores nothing about your files.
The website
- This site loads its fonts from Google Fonts. Google receives your IP address when it does.
- We do not run advertising trackers. If we add privacy-friendly analytics, this page will say so first.
Purchases
Payments are handled by our payment provider, who acts as the seller. They receive your payment details and email. We receive your email and order so we can send your license key. We do not sell or share these.
